Helping an intergovernmental, not-for-profit organisation develop a business strategy for its analytics services
CABI asked MoreBrains to evaluate the business value of investing further in their existing range of database products, in order to build new revenue streams in analytics services.
Following discussions with CABI’s project team, we conducted a series of semi-structured interviews — first with colleagues within the organisation, then with a range of external stakeholders (from both the Global South and North), who were identified through a segmenting exercise to ensure their views would be broadly representative.
We identified a number of opportunities for adding value, both via existing products and services and through new product development. While potential Global South customers had very different requirements from those in the Global North, all customer segments were united in experiencing a combination of technical and social challenges, which CABI is well placed to help address.

Helping a university press align two key teams
We were asked by a prestigious university press to work with two important teams in the organisation, both of which were responsible for different aspects of digital publishing and innovation. While the two groups had a number of goals in common, they had differing visions and ways of working, which often put them at odds with each other.
Using whole-system discovery, we discovered both overt and hidden causes of misunderstandings and tensions. Through co-creation with the teams, we developed a series of proposals to clarify the teams respective roles and responsibilities, improve ways of working, and clarify governance mechanisms.
