Environmental Management and Carbon Reduction Plan
Taking care of the environment is everybody’s responsibility, ours included
Commitment to achieving Net Zero
MoreBrains Cooperative is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Baseline Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gas that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: 2022
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations.
Our Baseline Emissions were calculated using data from the financial year ending 31/12/2022. We are a small consulting company with four directors, each based in a home office and as such only report Scope 3 emissions.
Baseline year emissions:
EMISSIONS
TOTAL (tCO2e)
Scope 1
0 – we operate a services company out of home offices and therefore are not in control of any Scope 1 emissions
Scope 2
0 – we operate a services company out of home offices and therefore are not in control of any Scope 2 emissions
Scope 3
(IncludedSources)
2.7 tCo2e WFH allocation
Total Emissions
7.1 tCO2e

Emissions reduction targets
Given that a significant proportion of our carbon emissions are already incurred through working from home allocations, our main recourse to contribute to Net Zero is to continue to manage business travel. We will also encourage clients to promote good practices, and wherever possible minimise paper/printing use, unnecessary travel and otherwise instil good low carbon practices among the directors.
Carbon Reduction Projects
We operate a small professional services company comprising four directors, each working from home. We do not produce or manufacture physical items, our “products” are digital reports for clients. Therefore, we have no upstream or downstream transportation, distribution or waste products.
Business Travel is the key area over which we have control. Given that we incorporated in 2020 (during the Covid restrictions period), our company is built upon a ‘minimal travel’ operational model as standard. We travel by train where possible and work with clients to avoid unnecessary face to face meetings by optimising virtual meetings and offline communications.
In the future we plan to implement further measures such as:
- Employees:
- Working with our team to encourage good practice
- Increased encouragement for carbon friendly home office environments, e.g. solar panels, insulation
- Include sustainability within the staff induction, as well as ongoing briefings and an annual team review of company performance.
- Office:
- Updating our procurement policies to ensure we purchase items with a lower carbon footprint.
- Using data services (cloud storage, AI, cloud compute etc.) as leanly as possible and prioritising providers with a clear carbon reduction plan and/or renewable energy commitment.
- Clients:
- Continuing to minimise business travel to client sites and where this is necessary, choose appropriate modes of transport, including trains rather than planes wherever practicable.

This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction
